No, you’re not required to switch to The MORE Everything Plan when you get a new device; however, you’ll only have the option to keep unlimited data if you pay full retail price for your new device. When you upgrade to a phone at a discounted price, you have the option to keep your current voice plan with a metered data package or move to the The MORE Everything Plan.
If you don’t currently have a plan that shares allowances, you don’t have to change the other lines to The MORE Everything Plan.
If you currently have a plan that shares allowances, you would have to change the other lines to The MORE Everything Plan because you can’t have multiple shared plans on one account (e.g., a Family SharePlan® and a MORE Everything Plan). However, you could have multiple accounts that receive separate bills, one with The MORE Everything Plan and the other with a Family SharePlan.
There are no special impacts if you have just one line on The MORE Everything Plan. In addition, Mobile Hotspot is included at no additional cost, so you can connect and share your plan’s data allowance with multiple Wi-Fi enabled devices. If you decide to add another line to your plan, The MORE Everything Plan lets you share data with up to 10 devices.
Data allowances give you access to the Internet over the Verizon Wireless network. The MORE Everything Plan comes with a data allowance that you can share with up to 10 lines on your account.
Yes, you can switch to The MORE Everything Plan without upgrading your device from the Change Plan page in My Verizon.

However, if you currently have an unlimited data plan, you won’t be able to keep it if you upgrade at a discounted price. You can choose from a plan with a standalone data package or The MORE Everything Plan. If keeping unlimited data is important to you, you have the option to pay full retail price for a new phone.
The iPad plan that includes 1 GB for $20 won’t change. You can move to The MORE Everything Plan, but there’s no need to if you’re satisfied with your existing plan.

If you want to add another line to your account and switch to the MORE Everything Plan, you’ll have more options for data and be able to select the data allowance that matches your usage patterns and budget. Plus the MORE Everything Plan includes unlimited minutes, unlimited messages and shareable data for up to 10 devices on your account.
If you’re a current customer interested in adding another line to your account but don’t want to change your current plan to a MORE Everything Plan, we offer three data packages that can be added to your plan, starting as low as $30 per month. The data allowances in these packages aren’t shared.
Our standalone data packages are:
|Data Packages for Smartphones|
|Monthly Data Allowance||Monthly Access Fee||Rate After Allowance|
|2 GB||$30||$10 for each additional 1 GB|
|5 GB||$50||$10 for each additional 1 GB|
|10 GB||$80||$10 for each additional 1 GB|
The price varies based on the features and functionality of the device. Smartphones have a higher monthly line access charge because they typically use a lot of data, minutes and messages compared to tablets, netbooks or connected devices, which just use data.Back to top
If you wish to sync pictures and videos to social media sites and email, a wireless or Wi-Fi connection is required. Many things you do on a mobile device require data, like accessing the Internet, streaming music and using GPS. While each task can vary in the amount of data it uses (due to file size), this chart shows the general equivalent* of one GB for each type of data usage:
|Types of Data Usage||1 GB|
|Streaming audio||17 hrs|
|Streaming 4G video||3 hrs|
|Streaming 3G video||4 hrs|
|Using turn-by-turn navigation||200 hrs|
|Uploading/downloading hi-res photos||340|
|Browsing the web||3,000 webpages|
We have two tools to help you determine your data usage.
You can manage your data in two ways:
Yes. With Verizon FamilyBase™, you’ll be able to monitor and set limits for data usage, define time restrictions for when data should not be used and receive alerts for each line. Verizon FamilyBase is available for $5/month for your entire account (up to 10 lines.)
For more information, see the Verizon FamilyBase Overview page.
There are various ways to check your data usage both online and on your device.
|Ways to Check Data Usage|
|Call from your device||Dial #DATA (#3282) from your mobile phone. A text message containing your data usage details will be sent.|
|My Verizon Mobile app|
For a quick summary of your daily charges:
The cost varies based on your plan and the amount of data.
Yes, with My Verizon and My Verizon Mobile, you can set up alerts to help you monitor your data usage. You and all the lines on your account will receive text messages or emails telling you when you’ve used the following amounts of your data allowance:
If your data usage falls between two options, it may be a better value to sign up for the larger allowance. For example, if you have a 2 GB Plan (which costs $50) and you exceed it, you would be paying $65 for 3 GB. We recommend changing to the 3 GB Plan, which costs $60. Should you find that you need more or less data, you can change your allowance at any time in My Verizon.Back to top
Unfortunately, yes, you’ll be charged for data usage on apps you re-download.Back to top
No, you won’t be charged for data usage on any OTA updates you receive on your device.

No, there’s no extra charge to use your basic phone or smartphone as a modem, also known as Mobile Hotspot, on MORE Everything. You can connect your smartphone or basic phone to your computer through Wi-Fi and get online access.Back to top
By activating your Wi-Fi settings, you’ll still have access to the Internet, but you won’t use your monthly data allowance. Most smartphones and tablets can be configured to search for open Wi-Fi hotspots and, depending on your settings, automatically connect.
Note: Wi-Fi hotspots generally don’t include over-the-air encryption to protect your data from observation from other users. As such, we recommend that you always use a firewall on your computer and have current anti-virus software to protect your computer from possible infection or attack. Using Wi-Fi can also deplete your battery faster than using a Verizon Wireless network connection.Back to top
