Network Programs

General Information

  1. What are “Network Programs”?

Network Programs refer to web-based applications that use Verizon Wireless network capabilities to perform certain tasks such as locating your device or sending you information via text messaging. An example could be a web-based program that provides a coupon whenever you are close to a retailer’s store location. Such a program would use the Verizon Wireless network to first locate your device, and then send a coupon to your device via picture messaging if you were close to their store.

Your consent is required before these programs are allowed to locate you, contact you or access any of your information. So if you signup for a program on a website, we will send you a text message asking you to confirm your consent before we allow that program to locate or contact you. The message will read:

A program named XYZ is trying to locate or contact you. To allow for 24 hours, reply A. To always allow, reply W. Reply D to reject.

You can manage your permission settings on the “Network Programs and Permissions” page. Please refer to the FAQ, “What Settings Can I Change for a Network Program” below for more information on settings.

  2. How do I opt-in to a Network Program?

To opt-in to a Network Program, you must first access the website associated with the program (perhaps a retailer’s website or your employer’s website) and enter the required information and your mobile number. The first time the program attempts to locate or contact you, we will ask you to confirm your consent via a text message. You can then manage your consent settings by logging into your account at www.verizonwireless.com and selecting Network Programs and Permissions.

  3. How do I opt-out of a Network Program?

To opt-out to a Network Program, you must access the website associated with the program and follow the steps on that site to remove your mobile number. You can also manage your consent settings by logging into My Verizon and going to the Network Programs and Permissions” page.

Please be aware that setting a program’s permission to “Deny” blocks all future requests from that program but it does not remove your mobile number from the developer’s website. To remove your mobile number from the developer’s website, you will need to access that site and follow the opt-out instructions.

  4. Are there any additional charges to use a Network Program?

There are only additional charges for programs that utilize messaging. For those programs, standard messaging rates apply for sending and receiving text or picture messages. For many Network Programs, there are no charges to you.

  5. What settings can I change for a Network Program?

The “Network Programs and Permissions” page allows you to manage your permission settings for each Network Program you have opted into. Permission settings are specific to a program so you can set a different permission setting for each program. The settings are:

    • Allow – The program is allowed to locate or contact you based on the schedule you established on the third-party website.
    • Ask – The program will send a text message each time requesting permission to locate or contact you. This is the default setting for all programs.
    • Deny – The program is not allowed to locate or contact you. All requests from this program are blocked by the Verizon Wireless network.
