Note When roaming outside the Verizon Wireless coverage area, a software update notice will not be received. To receive the software update over a Wi-Fi network, refer to Setup Wi-Fi Connection for assistance then check for a software update.

    Apply update
    The device will restart and install the update.
    Remind me later
    The update can be done later by checking for a software update.

  1. From a home screen, select Apps.

Alternate Method (Software Upgrade Assistant via USB cable)

Note To check for an update via a USB cable and computer, the drivers and VZW Software Upgrade Assistant must be installed.

  1. Ensure that the wireless device is powered on then connect it to a compatible computer using the supplied USB cable.
  2. Ensure the appropriate USB connection type is selected.
    1. From a home screen, select Apps.
    2. Select Settings.
    3. From the SYSTEM section, select Connectivity.
    4. From the USB CONNECTION section, select USB connection type.
    5. Select Internet connection.
    6. Select Ethernet.
  3. From the Windows desktop, click the VZW Software Upgrade Assistant icon VZW Software Upgrade Assistant icon located in the lower-right of the task bar (next to the date and time).
    Note If not available, navigate Start > All Programs > VZW Utility Application > Launch Utility Application.
    Note Allow up to 1 minute for the application to launch and check device information.
  4. If an update is available, select Upgrade LGVS840 (located on the right).
    Note Update time will vary depending upon Internet connection speed. Allow up to 1 hour for the update to complete.
    Caution Do not disconnect or power off the device until the Status indicator displays "Up to date".

Install Drivers and VZW Software Upgrade Assistant

Note Ensure that the following system requirements are met prior to installation:

  • Windows 2000 (SP4 or later), Windows XP (SP1 or SP2), Windows Vista or Windows 7 (with admin rights)
  • 1 GHz (or higher) Pentium-compatible processor with a minimum 256 MB of RAM
  • At least 2.5 GB of available hard drive space
  • High-speed Internet connection
  1. Ensure that the wireless device is powered on then connect it to a compatible computer using the supplied USB cable.
  2. If presented, click Run VZW_Software_upgrade_assistant.exe.

  3. Review the License Agreement and ensure "I accept the terms in the agreement" is selected then click Yes to continue.
    Note The device drivers are automatically installed upon accepting the terms of the license agreement.

  4. Click Install Now.
