Hard Reset - DROID 3 by Motorola
Performing a hard reset removes all data including the Google account, system data, app data, app settings, and downloaded apps. Only perform a hard reset if absolutely necessary. Pictures, Videos and Music are also removed. It is recommended to backup this data.
Personal data such as Wi-Fi passwords, Browser bookmarks, User dictionary, a list of installed Market apps and other customized settings can be backed up to and restored from Google's servers. Disable Automatic Restore prior to performing a hard (factory) reset when attempting to determine whether a 3rd party app is the cause of an Operating System / App issue.Preferred method
Alternate method
- From a home screen, select the App menu.
- Select Settings.
If the app icon is missing, select App menu filter (located at the top) then select All apps.
- Select Privacy.
- Select Factory Data Reset.
- Select Reset phone. If presented, enter the current passcode or draw the unlock pattern.
- Select Erase Everything. Allow up to 3 minutes for the factory data reset and reboot processes to complete.
- Refer to Initial Activation and Setup.
- Power the device off. Press the Power button then select Power off. If the device doesn't respond to input, remove and replace the battery.
- Slide the keyboard open.
- Press and hold the Power button+X key simultaneuously until the Recovery screen (exclamation point with an android figure) appears.
- Slide keyboard closed then simultaneuously press the volume up+down keys.
- Press Volume down to select wipe data/factory reset the press the Power button. Utilize the Volume keys (up/down) to select.
- Press Volume down to select Yes -- delete all user data then press the Power button. Factory reset process may take several moments to complete.
- Ensure reboot system now is selected then press the Power button. Reboot process may take several minutes to complete.
