Hard Reset - DROID 3 by Motorola

Warning Performing a hard reset removes all data including the Google account, system data, app data, app settings, and downloaded apps. Only perform a hard reset if absolutely necessary.
Warning  Pictures, Videos and Music are also removed. It is recommended to backup this data.
Note Personal data such as Wi-Fi passwords, Browser bookmarks, User dictionary, a list of installed Market apps and other customized settings can be backed up to and restored from Google's servers.
Note Disable Automatic Restore prior to performing a hard (factory) reset when attempting to determine whether a 3rd party app is the cause of an Operating System / App issue.

Preferred method

  1. From a home screen, select the App menu.

  2. Select Settings.
    Note If the app icon is missing, select App menu filter (located at the top) then select All apps.

  3. Select Privacy.

  4. Select Factory Data Reset.

  5. Select Reset phone.
    Note If presented, enter the current passcode or draw the unlock pattern.

  6. Select Erase Everything.
    Note Allow up to 3 minutes for the factory data reset and reboot processes to complete.

Alternate method

  1. Power the device off.
    Note Press the Power button then select Power off.
    Note If the device doesn't respond to input, remove and replace the battery.
  2. Slide the keyboard open.

  3. Press and hold the Power button+X key simultaneuously until the Recovery screen (exclamation point with an android figure) appears.

  4. Slide keyboard closed then simultaneuously press the volume up+down keys.

  5. Press Volume down to select wipe data/factory reset the press the Power button.
    Note Utilize the Volume keys (up/down) to select.

  6. Press Volume down to select Yes -- delete all user data then press the Power button.

  7. Ensure reboot system now is selected then press the Power button.
